In Texas, a Personal Protection Officer (PPO) is a person licensed by the Private Security Bureau to serve as a bodyguard. In order to become a Personal Protection Officer, one must first already be a Level III Commissioned Security Officer (licensed to carry a firearm in the performance of security duties) and also undergo additional training. The Level IV Personal Protection Officer rating entitles the holder to carry a concealed weapon while performing security duties, in other words, to be armed while working plainclothes. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/psb/
