Sister Pauline Frances Engel, DBE
is a member of the Sisters of Mercy
who served as the third principal of Carmel College
in Auckland, New Zealand, and the first principal to be appointed (in 1983) by Carmel College's Board of Governors.

Sister Mary Justine Gillies was given the mission of founding Carmel College on donated land, initially with fifteen students and no actual classrooms. Sister Justine gathered dedicated teaching Sisters and, as the school grew, these Sisters were joined by the first full-time lay teacher, Mrs Verena Butler, in 1963.
Under Sister Pauline (the third principal of the College, who was appointed in 1983 by the school's Governors), the College undertook an extensive programme of building, expanding and refurbishing. This included building a gym
