Patrick Goldstein is a film critic and columnist for the Los Angeles Times, writing about movies in a column entitled The Big Picture. Colleague Tom O'Neill describes him as the newspaper's "chief Oscarologist".
In his Oscar preview for 2005 Goldstein joked about Rob Schneider's Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo not getting any award. Schneider retaliated by placing an ad in the LA Times the next day that was critical of Goldstein himself, claiming among other things that he had not won any journalistic awards (an allegation which turned out to be false).
Goldstein has caused the occasional stir by being critical of Oscar blogs and websites.
