Paravur is located at 8.78 N 76 E. It has an average elevation of 10 metres (32 feet).
Paravoor, 24 kilometres from Kollam, is a narrow skirt of land stretching in between the backwaters and the sea. The famous Varkala beach is a mere 15 kilometres drive from here. Paravur is the historical place where the great musician Devarajan was born.
Paravoor is known for the enchating beauty of its back waters. The main resort in Paravur is the Aqu Serene that attracts hundreds of foreigners.

Paravur is just 10 km from the National Highway NH-47. To reach Paravur, stop at Thirumukku, when coming from Kollam City towards Trivandrum and take right turn from Thirimukku junction (Near Chattanoor town). Paravur has a municipal bustand where private and government KSRTC buses stop. This bustand is a major hub for accessing nearby towns and village like Edava, Kappil,Puthenkulam, Kalakodu, Varkala, etc.
