St Patrick's High School and St. Patrick's College have the distinction of having had Prof. Mascarenhas as the only lay-person as principal of both institutions. He was well known for his contribution firstly to St. Patrick’s College, first as the Dean of the Commerce section and later as the principal (1971 – 1975). He was also among the first to have served the College both as private and government institutions. He has been a teacher and principal to thousands of students.

Being an educator and administrator, with an MA (Oxon) his services were much sought after and he became the principal of St. Patrick’s High School from 1993 to 2000 where he raised the standard of the school, gave ample opportunities for teachers to get refresher training and encouraged sporting and other talents among students.

Mascarenhas was also instrumental in organizing a special function for the then Chief Executive of the Country, General Pervez Musharraf
