In the Summer months, Oriental Bay becomes a hive of activity. Cafes, restaurants, and bars sit side by side and attract many. The beach is consumed with swimmers, party goers and families. It is common to find an array of buskers, entertainers and food vendours in Oriental Bay, making it one of the most popular spots in all of Wellington.

Oriental Bay is one of the most expensive real estate areas in New Zealand. Oriental Terrace, which runs off Oriental Parade, has houses which range from $1.2 to $6.5 million (NZD).
