A demo of the song also exists which has many differences and similarities with the final version. The drum beat is identical, the synths differ slightly. and the main difference Ben King's vocals are given a distortion

In an interview with vocalist Ben King and keyboardist Damian Press the two have joked that the unusual sounds made in the chorus were generated by "stolen keyboards". It is also noted that "Only Wanna Love Ya" seems to be the only Expatriate song to date where, when performed live, King doesn't play an instrument instead walking around the stage. It has been mentioned by the band on numerous occasions that the song is "one of the most different sounding on the album".
