Nuclear receptor coactivator 2
Encyclopedia
The nuclear receptor coactivator 2 is a transcriptional coregulatory
Transcription coregulator
In molecular biology and genetics, transcription coregulators are proteins that interact with transcription factors to either activate or repress the transcription of specific genes. Transcription coregulators that activate gene transcription are referred to as coactivators while those that...

Histone acetyltransferase
Histone acetyltransferases are enzymes that acetylate conserved lysine amino acids on histone proteins by transferring an acetyl group from acetyl CoA to form ε-N-acetyl lysine....

activity. NCOA2 is recruited to DNA promotion sites by ligand activated nuclear receptors. NCOA2 in turn acylates histones which makes downsteam DNA more accessible to transcription. Hence NCOA2 assists nuclear receptors in the upregulation of DNA expression.

NCOA2 is also frequently called glucocorticoid receptor interacting protein 1 (GRIP1), steroid receptor coactivator-2 (SRC-2), or transcriptional mediators/intermediary factor 2 (TIF2).

Interactions

Nuclear receptor coactivator 2 has been shown to interact
Protein-protein interaction
Protein–protein interactions occur when two or more proteins bind together, often to carry out their biological function. Many of the most important molecular processes in the cell such as DNA replication are carried out by large molecular machines that are built from a large number of protein...
