Thankfully the school survived the threat of closure and in 2004 boasted more than 50 pupils. The main reason for this is the increase in the size of North Cowton, thanks to the construction of two new housing estates. Another reason is the schools acceptance of several children from outside the schools catchment area. Since then the opening of a new school at Middleton Tyas
