His successful start of the football program helped him to lead Belhaven to a top 25 National ranking for six consecutive weeks in only the school's second season of play. Belhaven began its season with a 6-2 record, but lost the final three games of its season to finish 6-5.

In 2009, the Choctaws finished 9-3 and reached the Division III playoffs. In 2010, the team went 4-6.
