The NBJBHL was forged from the synergy of five regional New Brunswick Jr. B leagues after the demise of the NBJHL, but it folded in 2003.

In 2003, the league NBJHL was the primary Jr. league in New Brunswick, a Jr. C league. Starting in 2007, the League was allowed to send its top team to the Don Johnson Cup

In the Summer of 2011, all but Hampton folded. The league ceased operations and the Hurricanes moved up to Junior B.
