In 1972, Tehrani started TMC as a publisher of trade magazines, working from the basement of his Stamford, CT home. After discovering that he could sell advertising space much more easily using phone calls rather than in-person sales, he began in 1982 to publish a trade magazine for people doing phone marketing. That magazine was then called "TeleMarketing" but is now called "Customer Interaction Solutions."

The company's activities now include not only publishing but also corporate training and conference organization. TMC's publications also cover VoIP and outsourcing
