. Although the name of the championship aludes to it being nationally recognized and defended, it was only used in the Central States territory. The title served as the primary tag team title within the Central States region from 1963-1973 before it was retired. Over the years, several other NWA affiliated promotions created their own versions of the title and a version controlled by the NWA Board of Directors is in use today.
