Plot

Mathilda or "Matty", a bitter 41-year old mother of three, is separated from her husband Werner. While shopping she backs into the truck of 29-year old Johnny. Johnny comes to Matty's apartment and offers to fix the car, and proposes to go out for a drink, which Matty accepts. The date at the bar leads to a one-night stand, and this gives Matty a renewed interest in life. Werner learns about Johnny and checks his background, finding out that he was an alcoholic and abused his wife, putting her in the hospital for two weeks, and also did prison time. At dinner Matty's headstrong 17-year old daughter Vera asks Johnny about the abuse, and he explains that it happened at a time he was alcoholic and learned his ex-wife had a 3-month affair with an attorney, sending him into a rage. Johnny and Werner have an argument over dinner and both leave. Matty rekindles her romance with Werner. Vera invites Matty out to a karaoke bar, where she runs into Johnny who serenades her with the pop standard "Mona Lisa". She leaves in disgust, but later seeks out Johnny's truck just before he departs on a trip to Italy. She places a call Werner; the conversation is unheard but he appears disappointed.
