Description

The sculpture, painted red-orange metal, thrusts upward from a rectangular concrete base. The work is made of irregularly shaped triangles and rectangles bolted to the base with curved tubes (42 x 114 x 34 in.).

A plaque underneath the artwork is inscribed:

Acquisition

In 1979 the Indianapolis Art League (currently the Indianapolis Art Center), commissioned Freeman to construct Monumentalment IV using both public and private funds. The piece was completed in 1981 and installed in front of the building. The artwork currently sits on the west lawn of the Indianapolis Arts Center grounds.

ARTSPARK

This sculpture is is one of 27 artworks in the IAC's ARTSPARK which, "brings art, artists and the community together through interactive sculptures in an open–air setting."

Condition

The sculpture was surveyed in November of 1992 by the Save Outdoor Sculpture! program and was described needing treatment.
