Mirna is a nucleated settlement in the municipality of Mirna, part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola

ordered the National Assembly in December 2010 to establish the municipality of Mirna within two months and to call elections to its municipal council within 20 days after the establishment. Mirna regained its position as a municipal centre on 26 February 2011.
