The airfield has a single concrete runway 09/27 measuring 4310 x 69 feet (1314 x 21 m). It is sited along the Taedong River

History

The airfield was a base for P-51 Mustang fighters of the 18th US Bomber Wing during the Korean War

, at which time it consisted of a sod field. The field was in such disrepair that two Mustangs were lost on landing due to the dust. In September 1950, 206 members of the South African Air Force

arrived to help fly and maintain the Mustangs; however their stay was short lived as the airfield was evacuated in December 1950 during the UN retreat.
