Jones came through the youth ranks with Tranmere Rovers
making his first team debut on 6 May 2006 against Doncaster Rovers
.
He joined Shrewsbury Town
on loan in January 2007 and scored on his debut for the club on 14 January 2007 after coming on as a substitute in a match against Lincoln. He returned to Tranmere at the end of the season and signed a one year contract with the club in July 2007.
After being released by Tranmere in May 2008, Jones was signed by Bury on a one year contract on 30 July. He signed a two year contract extension in January 2009.
