, and at Cambridge University. On 13 October 1960, Birkett married Junia Elliott: she died in 1973. In 1978, he married Gloria Taylor, daughter of Thomas Taylor, and they had a child, Hon. Thomas Birkett (born 25 July 1982), who is the heir apparent to the barony. Gloria Taylor died in February 2001.
