. It is located 8 miles north of Retford and sits on the border of Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, being just under 14 miles from Doncaster. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 779.

On January 21 1999, four people died when a Tornado GR1 jet from RAF Cottesmore collided with a Cessna light aircraft above the village. The Cessna crashed close to a school while the Tornado dived into woodland, exploding on impact. One pilot managed to eject from the Tornado but later died from his injuries.
