 on a short-term contract in August 2002, before returning for a third period at Burnley on a month's contract in September. Despite doubts over his proficiency, he played a whole season at Burnley. He then signed for Bradford City

Beresford played a key role in Luton's Championship winning side in League One in 2004–05 - the first time in his career he had picked up a championship winners medal and, due to his experience, continued making appearances throughout the 2005–06 season and contributed significantly to Luton's respectable finish of 10th place. Beresford has been part of a 2006–07 season which saw Luton finish in the bottom three of the Championship and be relegated to League One.

From 18 October 2007 to 18 November 2007 he was on loan at Oldham Athletic

. He was released by Luton at the end of the 2007–08 season.

On 5 September 2010 Beresford played for Middlesbrough Supporters South Football Club against Plymouth Argyle Supporters London Branch in a friendly pre-season game at King Georges Sports Ground, Wandsworth. He kept a clean sheet and was praised for his communication and distribution.

Beresford continued to play for Middlesbrough Supporters South throughout the 2010/2011 season, which culminated in MSS winning the David Baister Cup in a 2-0 victory over Brighton. Two goals from striker Johnathon Gallagher helped MSS to win their first silverware in their 20+ year history but it was star man Beresford who marshalled the defence and kept out the impressive Brighton forwards. http://www.mfc.co.uk/page/news/latest/0,,1~2361917,00.html

The cup final took place at Church Road; the home of Hayes and Yeading FC and was in fact the very last game to be played on Church Road due to planned housing developments.

Aside from Beresford; the 2010/2011 Middlesbrough Supporters South squad wholly consisted of Middlesbrough exiles living in the capital. Although technically an amateur standard; Middlesbrough have a number of players that had previously played at professional or semi-professional clubs, mainly in the Northern League.

Defender: Matt Holian (Wembley FC) Midfielder: James Shepherd (Cheltenham Town & Wolviston) and Strikers: Andy Clark (Wolviston & Easington) and Johnathon Gallagher (Birmingham City FC & Norton and Stockton Ancients) were all key players in the cup success.

Beyond his sporting abilities, Beresford is known to be a humble and charismatic man who supports a variety of good causes. In 2011 Beresford took part in a number of charity football fundraising events; travelling the length and breadth of Britain to do so.
