History

Markham recently celebrated its 100 year centennial.

At one time, Markham did have its own post office.

Though the local stores of Weiberg's and Blackwoods are now part of history, Markham remains a strong local community. Frequent coffee gatherings and local events in and around Markham, such as the Wirtanen Finnish Pioneer Farm festivities, assure its history will not pass into oblivion. Even when the Whiteface River

was dammed and flooded, many residents had to move their homes to accommodate the new Whiteface Reservoir, the community survived.
