Hollis has been a part of the Michigan State athletic department since 1995. In 2002, he was awarded the National Marketer of the Year Award as selected by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).

In January 2010 it was revealed that Hollis and the athletic department staff redesigned the Michigan State logo. The logo, which has received criticism from students, is said be part of a larger "brand and identity project" that will be unveiled in April 2010.
