MAC AIDS Fund was established in 1994. The fund was developed to support people who are living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. As well as donating funds to communities that offer services and help to and prevent the HIV/AIDS through educational programs and services.

History

MAC cosmetics was originally founded by Frank Angelo and Frank Toskan. Toskan was the original founder, he worked as a make-up artist and photographer. Later Frank Angelo an entrepreneur

VIVA GLAM

VIVA GLAM is the backbone for MAC's AIDS fund. VIVA GLAM is a line of lipsticks and lipglasses from which every cent of the sale price goes to help those living with HIV/AIDS around the world, setting M.A.C. apart from its peers, most of which only donate a portion of the profits ("proceeds") of a product. M.A.C. Cosmetics is currently the leading non-pharmaceutical corporate fundraiser for HIV/AIDS worldwide and has raised over $224 million dollars to date thanks to the VIVA GLAM campaign. WHAT ONE VIVA GLAM CAN DO…

ONE VIVA GLAM = 254 male condoms that effectively prevent HIV transmission

ONE VIVA GLAM = 24 female condoms for distribution by local Health Departments to prevent HIV transmission

ONE VIVA GLAM = 32 safe sex kits that include condoms and lubricant

ONE VIVA GLAM = 2 nights of shelter for a homeless person living with HIV/AIDS

ONE VIVA GLAM = 1 rapid oral HIV test

ONE VIVA GLAM = 8 home-delivered meals for a person living with HIV/AIDS who cannot cook for themselves

ONE VIVA GLAM = Monthly transportation to/from medical appointments for a child living with HIV/AIDS

ONE VIVA GLAM = 4 HIV tests for newborn babies to determine their HIV status

ONE VIVA GLAM = Medicine for 5 newborn babies to prevent transmission of HIV from their mothers

ONE VIVA GLAM = HIV tests for 14 pregnant women

ONE VIVA GLAM = 1 crisis counseling session for a person living with AIDS who is also struggling with addiction and homelessness

ONE VIVA GLAM = A six month supply of Omega 3 fish oil to help decrease the inflammation cause by the immune system’s battle against HIV

ONE VIVA GLAM = One year of clean, sterile syringes for an injection drug user to prevent HIV infection

ONE VIVA GLAM = 3 nutritious meals for 3 children affected by HIV/AIDS in South Africa

Good Spirits

In 2002, MAC began to offer Good Spirits "make-overs" to communities. Make-overs are free and designed to teach men, women and transgenders living with HIV/AIDS make-up skills that can make them look and feel better. Professional MAC artist's demonstrate techniques that can essentially decrease the appearance of physical problems that may occur from medicine and treatment for HIV/AIDS.

Products

VIVA GLAM The first lipstick was introduced in a deep red, in the year 1994.
VIVA GLAM II In 1997, a light pinkish mauve shade was introduced to the line.
VIVA GLAM III A brownish plum colored lipstick debuted in 2000.
VIVA GLAM IV March 2002 a rosy gold hue was added to the collection.
VIVA GLAM V was the first to introduce a "lipglass" and lipstick at the same time.
VIVA GLAM VI the final shade was created in a plum hue with a pearl finish.

Donations

To date the MAC AIDS fund has contributed $2.6 million in donations.

In London, before a concert VIVA GLAM spokesperson presented a $30,000 check to MTV's Staying Alive Foundation.

In 2000, MAC cosmetics provided a donation of $500,000 to fund an awareness campaign in Africa and Asia. A $250,000 check was also given to United Nations Development Programme
