The railway was opened on 1 October 1863 although the station was not provided until 1872. The station building once had ornate stone chimneys, and was an exact copy of the up station building at Kings Sutton.

In 1998 Little Kimble played host to the Royal Train. The G8 Summit was held in Birmingham that year and the wives of the G8 leaders, including Cherie Blair and Hillary Clinton, were conveyed to Chequers

 via Royal Train. Little Kimble is the nearest station to Chequers, so after reversing at Princes Risborough, the train disembarked at Little Kimble where the wives were transferred to Chequers via limousine.
