Little Flower High School was established in 1972, in rented premises near Vartak Nagar by Rev. Fr. Valerian Godinho in order to cater to the educational needs of the Catholics and the non-Catholics of this fast developing industrial area.
The present full-fledged school is located on its own extensive grounds. The school is recognized as a high school by the Education Department of the Government of Maharashtra.

Little Flower High School is administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mumbai. The school is under the religious jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mumbai.

The primary purpose of the school is to provide education for Catholic boys and girls. However, pupils of other denominations are also admitted and their religious feelings and freedom are duly respected without sacrificing the Christian Catholic ethos of the institution. Thorough attention is given to the moral and spiritual formation of all, besides academic, social, and physical development.

History

Little Flower High School was established in 1972 by Rev. Fr. Valerian Godinho with the aim of providing education conducive to the modern times. Ever since its inception, the school has been rapidly progressing. In spite of having a modest start the institution has grown to have more than 2700 students on roll and to date has become a much sought after establishment of the area.

Aims

The school aims to provide quality education to its students that can stimulate them intellectually and lead to the wholesome unfolding of a student's mental, intellectual and creative faculties. The school maintains excellent teaching standards and tries to instill in its students values like discipline, justice and responsibility that can help shape a better future for the students.

Managing committee

The school is managed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mumbai which looks after the day-to-day functioning of the school. The school would not have been possible without the vision, conviction and constant guidance of its managing committee.

Curriculum

The school academic year, which begins in June, comprises two terms: June–October and November–April. The Course of studies is designed to lay special emphasis on the preparation for Secondary School Certificate Examination. Hindi is a compulsory subject and is taught from class III. The base and foundation of Basic Techniques in Education, are given due emphasis. Physical Training, Outdoor games are compulsory for all. Pupils are encouraged to join introduction to computing, Social Service Groups and take up Projects in Std. VIII, IX and X.

Examinations

There are four unit tests, one terminal examination and one final examination each year. The first terminal examination is held in October and the final examination in April. Absence from one or more subjects involves the loss marks for those subjects. The results of the examination are final and are not reconsidered. Minimum requirements for a student to be declared 'Pass' is 35% while for a student to attain distinction is 75%.

Admissions

Application for admission is accepted during the month of May. Forms can be obtained from the School Office. The admission is given on the basis of a competitive entrance test conducted subject wise. The students are tested in the standard below the one to which they seek admission.
A new student joining from any recognised school cannot be admitted till his Leaving Certificate is produced, counter-signed by the Inspector of the State in which the school is situated, if the State be other than Maharashtra.
A parent or guardian of a new student must produce his Official Birth Certificate e.g. the Municipal or Baptismal Certificate in support of the date of Birth entered in the Admission Form. No child less than five years and more than six years by the corresponding scale of age is fixed for the successive Standards. The Entrance fee together with the first month's fee and term fee, must be paid in advance, applicable for new admission students (I and V class).

Withdrawals

Notice of withdrawal in writing should be given before the first of the month, else the fee for the following month will be charged. Such notice should be given by the parent or guardian and not by the pupil himself. Those who leave school in April must pay the fee for April and May. No Leaving Certificate is issued until all dues to the school are paid.

Science laboratory

Science without experimentation cannot be perceived and to give its students a better and a deeper understanding of the subject, the school offers spacious and well-equipped laboratories for its students. The science lab is complete with all the requisite equipments, apparatus, chemicals etc. The labs are frequently updated as per the requirements of the syllabus. An experienced faculty is present to guide the students in the laboratory.

Library

The library is a focal point of a school around which all the literary activities revolve as it radiates the light of knowledge to both the teachers and the students. The school has a good collection of well-selected books on all subjects ranging from reference books to fiction, non-fiction, biographies, encyclopedias, journals etc. The school subscribes many leading dailies and magazines. Students are encouraged to inculcate extensive reading habit in the library and study through reference books and texts which are available for borrowing as well as for reference purpose.

Student bodies

Co-curricular and extra curricular activities play a vital part in the education system of the school. A particular aspect of these activities is that the pupils learn under the supervision of Moderators to do things for themselves and acknowledge the practical side of important but abstract ideas of duty, co-operation and responsibility.

House System

In order to inculcate a healthy spirit of competition and to get the best out of each pupil, Little Flower High School students are divided into four houses. Each House is named after an important personality in national history.

School council

It is a student body established to put into practice the aims and objectives of the House System. The Council is made of the Prefect, Asst. Prefect, House Captain, House Leader as well as Class Monitors and Asst. Monitors of the classes and other representatives of the various activities and organisations. The meetings of the council are conducted on a Parliamentary basis and the Council fulfils its purpose by assisting the Principal and the staff in carrying of various affairs in the school, especially discipline.

Co-curricular activities

The school undertakes many co-curricular activities which helps in broadening the horizon of young minds. Fun Fairs, picnics, camps, workshops, debates enable them to become morally, physically and socially good students. Other activities like scouts - guides and N.C.C. are also undertaken.

In keeping with the aim of 'All Round Development of the Child' the school's activities are not restricted to the academic syllabus alone. The students are encouraged and motivated to take part in different activities organised by the school as well as other organisations. Whether it is Inter-school Quiz, Essay-Writing or Drawing competitions, the students have done the school proud by bringing home many Certificates of Merit and medals.
