Liederkreis Op. 24

Liederkreis, Op. 24 is a song cycle for voice and piano composed by Robert Schumann on nine poems by Heinrich Heine. The cycle was composed and published in 1840....

—so this work is also known as the Eichendorff Liederkreis. It is one of the great song cycles of the 19th century.

Schumann wrote the cycle in 1840 (starting in May ), the year in which he wrote so many lieder that it is known as his "year of song" or Liederjahr.

There are twelve songs in the cycle.
