The subway station was build in 1930 by Grenander and until 1965 the term "Zentralfriedhof" (engl.central cemetery) was added to the name. From 1935 the station was called "Bahnhof Lichtenberg". In East Germany the station was an important train station also. The passenger tunnel has only a height of 2,25m.
