that seem to have nothing in common at first, but then realize that they could make all the difference when they learn to lean on each other. Together, they form the most influential band in history, Lemonade Mouth. The story is narrated by each of the five band members, their friends, fans, and some of their enemies; it is compiled by OHS "scene queen" Naomi Fishmeier.

Olivia Whitehead

Olivia is a shy, isolated girl who leads the front vocals for the band. Olivia struggles with her life after her mother abandoned her when she was just a baby, her father was convinced of armed robbery and manslaughter when she was eight, and she was left to live with her grandmother. A bookworm, Olivia is often nervous and is reluctant to sing in a band because she lacks confidence before the band forms. She is described as being over-weight with flat, shapeless, greasy hair and solemn brown eyes, which grow into a light yellow color whenever she is happy, which the band rarely sees. Besides her singing ability, Olivia plays the accordion

and writes songs for the band about her personal struggles and how she had learned to over-come them with all the help, love and support that her friends give her. Olivia often seems to need reassurance from her band mates because she has trust issues. Whenever nervous or stressed, Olivia either throws-up or starts to try and controle her breathing. Olivia was born a Virgo after mother and father met at a high school party. Before going to Opequonsett High, Olivia went to St. Micheal's in Pawtucket

, an alternative school where they send kids that don't fit in some place else so they could get an education "without walls." Olivia starts going to Opequonsett High because her grandmother can no longer afford the tuition to St. Micheal's. She has a crush on Wen but won't admit it. Although considered shy, untalkitive and nervous, Olivia is symphathetic, sweet, gentle, soft-spoken, considerate, caring and liked by everybody in the band. She reveals later on in the book that her father, Ted Whitehead, named her after a character from Shakespear's play Twelfth Night. Throughout the book, She carries a Scooby Doo backpack. She is often bullied by Ray Beech because of her hair, silent nature and Scooby Doo bag.

Wendel "Wen" Gifford

Wen is a laid-back boy who plays the trumpet for the band. He is struggling with the fact his father will be marrying a much younger woman, Sydney. He feels she wants to take the role of his mom and he lusts after her. He's described as having blond hair that falls to his eyes and black rectangular-framed glasses. He lost his two best friends Azra Quimby and Floey Packer the past year because he asked Azra out and everything got uncomfortable between them. He later moves on and starts having some curiosity for Olivia and her shy nature. He later on discovers he has a strong love for Olivia and thinks of her more than just his best friend. Wen seems to be the only one in the band that is able to calm her Olivia down, as demonstrated when the band goes up to New Hampshire to visit Olivia's father in prison. Olivia starts to get nervous about the situation, and Wen is the one who calms her down. He's usually the joker of the group and tries to laugh things off when the band gets into tough situations.

Stella Penn

Stella is a loud, hyper firecracker born in Arizona who is reluctant to move to a small town halfway across the country because of her mother's new job. She goes to detention to rebel against her neglectful parents. She is described as "really tall." Early on in the book, Stella chops all of her hair off in a fit of rage and later dyes it green. It is mentioned at the end of the book that she has dyslexia

. Stella has been a vegetarian since the eighth grade. At school, Stella swaps her electric guitar for an electric ukulele

. Stella was first to believe in making the band, and was the creator of the band's name when she spits her lemonade in Ray Beech's face. Stella has a lot of self-confidence and courage. She encourages Olivia, and the two start bonding in the middle of the book. Stella seems to be the leader of the band, although she often asks the other members for advice. Even though portrayed as rebellious, Stella is shown to be a hard-worker and caring to her friends, especially Olivia, who is hinted to be her favorite. Stella can't stand it if Olivia gets hurt or bullied and feels guilty if she pressures Olivia into doing anything that will make her nervous. She's usually the toughest member of the band.

Mohini "Mo" Banerjee

Mo is a gentle-natured, soft-hearted, intelligent girl who finds herself socially inept and under the thumb of her strict father. She lies to her family while dating Scott Pickett. She plays stand-up bass for the band. She is from Calcutta. She is said to be skinny and having long, straight black hair, brown eyes and brown skin. Mo is cursed with being the only Indian girl at school. Mo eventually grows into having romantic feelings for her best friend, the band's drummer, Charlie. Mo speaks her mind and expresses her opinions, despite the fact that she is the smallest in the group. When Mo gets nervous, she bites her nails and gets stress headaches.

Charlie Hirsh

Since his recent birthday, Charlie finds himself struggling with the fact that he is alive instead of his still-born twin brother Aaron. Charlie plays the congas, bongos and timbales

for the band. He has a gentle and shy nature, but he doesn't take abuse and is more than willing to stick up for himself and for his friends. He is said to be a heavy-set with an "overgrown mop of frizz" for hair. Charlie is misunderstood by his peers. Like Wen with Olivia, Charlie is able to calm Mo down whenever she is worried, as demonstrated when Charlie comforts her after she catches her then-boyfriend, Scott Pickett, kissing his ex-girlfriend and breaks up with him.

Friends of the band members

  • Naomi Fishmeier - Naomi is Mo's loyal and wise best friend who gives Mo good advice. Naomi complies the story. She writes articles about Lemonade Mouth and even starts a call-in advertisement to get them on the band list at Catch A Ri-Zing Star. She is said to have glasses with the biggest lenses ever seen. Naomi writes for the school newspaper office The Barking Clam and liscensed herself as the OHS "Scene Queen."
  • Lyle Dwarkin - Lyle is Charlie's tiny, nerdy best friend with an acne problem. Lyle was elected as Treasurer

by the A.V Club, which has to be the geekiest of all extra activities the high school has to offer. This means Charlie's buddy is practically High Priest of the Weirdos. • Scott Pickett - The drummer for Mudslide Crush, Scott dated Mo but they wound up breaking off the relationship because Mo caught him kissing his ex-girlfriend, Lynn Westerberg, breaking Mo's heart. He is described as tall with spiky blond hair and is the cute high school soccer jock.
  • Mr. Brenigan - A strict vice principal who runs a tight ship and believes that Opequonsett High should be all about sports, Mr. Brenigan moves all extra activities to the basement of the high school. He goes as far as removing the vending machine

She gives Mo private bass lessons as an independent study. She is said to be tiny with a big mop of brown hair and is really old. There were rumors that the school board has already tried forcing her into retirement but couldn't get rid of her because she's a real fighter.
