Dimensions and machinery

The ships of the class were 96.622 metre long, had a beam of 15.189 metre, a draught of 5.817 metre, and had a displacement of 5,002 ton. The ships were equipped with 2 shaft reciprocating engine

s, which were rated at 6500 ihp and produced a top speed of 16.5 knots (32.3 km/h).

Armour

The ships had belt armour of 6 in (15.2 cm), 10 in (25.4 cm) barbette armour and 10 in (25.4 cm) turret armour.

Armament

The main armament of the ships where two 9.4 in (23.9 cm) single turret guns. Secondary armament included four single 15 cm (5.9 in) guns and eight 7.5 cm (3 in) single guns.

Construction

Koningin Regentes was laid down at the NSM Amsterdam shipyard on 1 January 1898. She was launched on 24 April 1900. De Ruyter was laid down at Wilton Fijenoord shipyard in Rotterdam

on 1 January 1900 and was launched on 20 February 1901.

The last ship to be launched on 7 June 1902 was Hertog Hendrik, she was also laid down at the NSM Amsterdam shipyard on 1 January 1900.
