History

The municipality of Klingen was establisted on 1 January 1891 when it was separated from Vemundvik

. Initially, Klingen had a population of 1,387. In 1917, the name was changed to Klinga. On 1 January 1964, Klinga municipality ceased to exist as it was incorporated into Namsos together with the whole of Vemundvik and smaller parts of Otterøy

 river bridge was completed so that traffic between Namsos and Klinga could occur regardless of the uncertain ferry connections. In 1928, the state took over road maintenance on main roads and eventually developed a road link to the south and east. Norwegian County Road 17 runs through Klinga.

, Klinga became a sub-parish (sokn) within Namsos parish (prestegjeld) in the 1800s. It became so after a renaming of the sub-parish Sævik
