. Its height has often been reported to be 1,600 feet, and that figure has been published many times over several decades, but it is greatly exaggerated. (The error may have originated with a measurement in feet being mistaken for a measurement in meters.) The falls' height has not been reliably determined, but is believed to be between about 500 and 700 feet. Though it is not as tall as it has long been thought to be, its combination of height and great volume of water, along with its being a sheer plunge, make it one of the world's most impressive waterfalls. The falls were reportedly discovered in 1938 by Danish scientist Paul A. Zaul.
