. He matriculated from Barisal Torki High School in 1942 and then went to Calcutta Islamia College

. There he was elected as the VC of the college’s student assembly.

In 1948, he got admitted at the law department of Dhaka University as an LLM student. He took part at the 1948 language movement with other student leaders including sheikh mujibur Rahman, Khaleque Nawaz Khan, Shamsul Haque by joining the Students Action Committee and was arrested for this. In 1949, he was again arrested for assisting a strike at the Dhaka University. Kazi Mahbub is founding member of the Awami League. On January 31, 1952, when Shorbodolio Kendrio Rashtrabhasha Kormoparishad was founded, Mahboob was selected as it’s convener. Kazi Mahboob attended the meeting of the at Amtala on February 21, 1952 and joined in the rally to violate section 144. Later on, he was arrested and spent one year in prison. At the later part of his political life, he became the vice chairman of BNP
