The area is located the Backas mansion and the International School of Vantaa. Furthermore, the Jumbo mall and the Ruutinkoski rapid are located nearby.

History

In 1998 the city of Vantaa organised a competition

 Djurgårdsstadens arkitekter. The area is under Pakkala district but for marketing reasons the suburb was named Kartanonkoski. The concept was taken from British city planners of the 1890's. The building were not square or rectangular, but shaped instead like half-moons, or curves. Furthermore the suburb area was to be lined with green areas and plenty of trees. The construction began in 2000.

The architecture of Kartanonkoski represents Neo-Traditional style. It is heavily influenced of the Scandinavian Neo-Classicism of 1920s. Most buildings are fairly low-rise, up to five floors. Most houses sport gabled roofs or pitched roof

s with penthouses, decorations and ornamentation. Elements shunned in Modernist architecture, such as symmetry, harmony and balance, are visibly present at Kartanonkoski. The intention of the architects was to combine the technology of present with the architectural tradition of past with heavy emphasis on aesthetics.

The construction costs were initially 10% higher than with usual Modernist style buildings, but the apartments sold at prices 50% higher than ordinary flats.
