Finding the perfect transmitter location for KTRB has been an unusually complicated process. In an effort to put the best signal possible into the Bay Area, KTRB has applied for and held many different construction permits for tower sites and directional facilities. Some were never built and expired, others were built but were sometimes impractical or the signal strength from them was deemed unsatisfactory. The most recent construction permit would have KTRB broadcasting from three different sites each day, one each for daytime hours (non-directional at 50 kW), nighttime hours (50 kW directional), and critical hours (two hours after sunrise and two hours before sunset with 40 kW directional). Its current night pattern site is situated in a remote area directly south of Livermore
