History

101.1 originally was an oldies station known as "Cool 101 for most of the 80's and nineties. At this time Cool 101 was owned by Parker Communications. In 1996 Cool 101 was one of the most successful stations in the Sacramento market.

Cool 101 was sold to American Media in 1991 from Parker Communications. Chancellor Media would purchase KHYL and KGBY in 1996.

Magic 101

In 2000 Clear Channel would purchase AMFM including KHYL and changed the longtime "Cool" oldies to "Magic 101". The rating would never reclaim as they once were as "Cool 101". Entravision would pick up to "Cool" oldies format over to their 101.9 signal KCCL now known as KNTY

In 2001, Magic 101 was changed to its current format of R&B Oldies as "V101. Newer R&B has since been added to the playlist.
