Mixed martial arts career

Jussier fought on August 30, 2008 in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He defeated fighter Ralph Lauren via submission.

Shooto Brazil

Jussier then joined Shooto and won his debut fight on November 29, 2008 at Shooto - Brazil 9 against Maicon Willian Costa via decision.

This was followed up by a victory over Shinichi "BJ" Kojima via decision at Shooto - Revolutionary Exchanges 1: Undefeated.

After upsetting Shooto world champion Shinichi Kojima in a non-title affair in July, it was expected "Formiga" would be brought back for a year-end title rematch. However, Kojima has recently vacated the title, further complicating Jussier's future with the organisation.

da Silva was at this point, ranked as the number one flyweight in the world and then fought Alexandre Pantoja
