It is one of the tallest buildings on Broad Street and forms a prominent part of the city skyline when viewed from the south. It is a rare example of Brutalist architecture
in Birmingham, with other similar examples being Birmingham Central Library
and New Street Station Signal Box.
The hotel itself is a 3 star branch with 445 rooms, making it the largest hotel in Birmingham city centre. On the ground floor is a pub and a restaurant. The hotel opened on February 1, 1999 after a £12 million refurbishment from an office building into a hotel. It was bought by the Jurys Inns
hotel chain in 2001 for £42 million.
