Death and Legacy

En Guayaquil volvió a ser "el muchacho de barrio", sencillo, amistoso, bohemio, generoso y alegre. Creó un programa de televisión, del cual fue conductor en Canal 4; efectuó innumerables presentaciones y grabó nuevas canciones. Pero los excesos de una vida sin control habían hecho mella en su organismo, que aí cabo de un tiempo empezó a mostrar signos de deterioro.
A comienzos del mes de febrero de 1978, fue sometido a una delicada operación para extirparle cálculos de la vesícula, y durante el lapso post operatorio cometió la imprudencia de arrancarse las sondas conectadas a su cuerpo, lo que le provocó una peritonitis que obligó a los médicos a practicarle una segunda intervención; pero esta vez su organismo descuidado a lo largo de tantos años de vida bohemia, no respondió como se esperaba.Jaramillo died at the relatively young age of forty-two. Thousands of Ecuadorians attended his funeral. His level of popularity in Ecuador could be compared to Frank Sinatra
