Personal life

In 1969 Liavaa married the King of Tonga's niece in Auckland. The King was reportedly furious and lured the princess back to Tonga, where she was kept under palace arrest. The marriage was annulled by royal decree. In the 1980s he reportedly had an affair with the King's daughter, Princess Pilolevu Tuita.
