. After one season with Haarlem, Metgod moved to play for AZ Alkmaar, spending six years at the club.
In 1982, Metgod moved to Spain to play for Real Madrid
. He then moved to Nottingham Forest
in 1984 and to Tottenham Hotspur
in 1987. In the summer of 1988 he moved back to the Netherlands, and played for Feyenoord for six seasons before retirement.
