Early life

Malloy was born and raised in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania

, and began drawing cartoons and rock stars at age 6. His father, a cemetery-caretaker, and mother, a coal-miner’s daughter, encouraged him to pursue his talents. Later, he earned a strong background in trompe l'oeil

. In his mid-twenties, feeling his work was growing derivative and stagnant, he took a few years off from visual art altogether to pursue other interests and jobs. These experiences would later become partial inspiration for his comic, Queasy. In his spare time he experimented with new techniques and styles to develop his own unique voice. He started work again as an illustrator, designer, fine artist, and comics creator in early 2007 at the age of 31.

His illustrations have been featured in The Big Book of Contemporary Illustration, and Gestalten's Illusive 3 book of contemporary Illustration. Since 2007 he has produced work for 55 DSL (Diesel Clothing), Paste Magazine, Business Week, Focus Features

In 2008 he completed One Out of a Hundred, his first personal series that explored drug side effects as a metaphor for consumer culture’s long-term effects on the human spirit. His work, Sedation, from that series, was selected for the international art & design publication, Semi Permanent 2009.

wrote that "[w]hile Malloy has obvious ambition and talent, he hasn't harnessed that talent to present a coherent, meaningful narrative." In a 2010 interview Malloy states, "Looking back on it I’m actually not that fond of it since it was my first effort. I’ve always been a fan of the medium and enticed by how unexplored it is as a genre." He returned to the sequential/comics medium in 2007, concepting and illustrating sequential-art rock interviews for Lemon Magazine, and is currently at work on his autobiographical graphic novel
