John Francis Hall-Edwards (19 December 1858 – 15 August 1926) was a pioneer in the medical use of X-ray
s in the United Kingdom. He took the first radiograph to direct a surgical operation, on 14 February 1896. Hall-Edwards' interest in X-rays cost him his left arm, which had to be amputated in 1908 as a consequence of X-ray dermatitis.
