Early Life and Family

Johnson was born in Dublin, Georgia

. His mother was a public school teacher within the Vidalia City Schools System and his father was a teacher at Brewton-Parker College, a small Baptist college located in Mount Vernon, Georgia.

Johnson moved to Buncombe County in western North Carolina when he was just six months old and has lived in North Carolina since. Joe attended public schools in Henderson County, graduating from East Henderson High School in Hendersonville. Joe holds two undergraduate degrees, one from North Carolina State University and the other from the University of London.

Johnson comes from a family of teachers, farmers and leaders in the religious and business communities who taught by example the importance of public service and placing the needs of others above his individual needs.

In addition to working with the Council on Aging Joe Johnson serves as a Senior Policy Advisor for Representative David Guice, a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives

Over the next two years Joe Johnson worked with the Sheriff to write and manage the multi-million dollar budget, write and manage state and federal grant proposals and serve as the chief political adviser for the Sheriff.
