s. She is also unusually strong for her size as she can manhandle almost anyone (male or female) with ease. The residents of the town and their odd experiments try her patience, but those few moments where she gets to shoot something seem to make it worth it. The residents themselves know and trust Jo, despite her blustering. Her personal life, however, leaves something to be desired. When she is not caring for her weapons, Jo can often be seen scanning ads in magazines like Modern Mercenary for possible suitors. In the episode "Alienated", when the victims of the mind-altering signal are being shown individually psychologically tailored "calming" images to help them recover, a teary-eyed Jo's screen shows members of the armed forces during an amphibious assault. In the earlier episodes of the series, she had a tattoo on her upper arm, which was gone in "God is in the Details" for unexplained reasons.

At the end of Season 1 she was 5'7" and 27 years old.

According to the Season 3 premiere, she lives at 60 Fermi Drive, but in Season 4 episode Larry's rocket hit her house at 4020 Coriolis Loop, after that she is living with Jack at 3 Coriolis Loop.

After the Season 4 premiere, in the alternate timeline Jo is the head of Security at Global Dynamic and Andy the robot has taken over her previous duties as deputy sheriff. In this timeline, her relationship with Zane never existed.

when she was a young girl. Also in "Noche de Suenos," Jo says she grew up with no mother and three brothers, implying her mother died or left when she was young. However, she was old enough to remember the costumes her mother made for her for various roles in school plays. Due to her experiences growing up in a presumably all-male household, Jo claims she had to "learn to survive" and abandoned her ambitions to dance. In season three while temporarily trapped in Julia's body, she tries to convince the others she is really Jo by telling them she graduated top of her class at West Point. Her current outfit is all black, black pants, black undershirt, black dress shirt, and black leather high heels.

Personal relationships

In Season 1, Jo is single, though she has made no comment about it. Jo also appears to be quite fond of Jim Taggart

This lasted until 2010 ("Once In A Lifetime"). However, that timeline was erased in ("Phoenix Rising"), and in the new timeline, Jo demonstrates regret over making out with him. She seems sickened when Zoe reminds her Jo and Taggart's age difference is the same as Zoe's and her dad.

(who first appeared in "E=MC...?"). This seems to become a budding romance, though some problems arise later ("Maneater"). Also during that episode, Jo finally kisses him. During the episode "From Fear to Eternity" some misunderstandings arise threatening the relationship, but at the end of episode, Jo and Zane reconcile and decide to give it a try. In Season 3.5, Zane tells Jo he loves her and, after a pause, she replies that she loves him too ("Ship Happens").

In "Founder's Day" Zane works up the courage to ask Jo to marry him, only to be left hanging when Jo is unable to give him an answer. At the end of the episode, when Jo returns from the past, she heads to the jail only to find Zane sitting on the bunk behind bars. Trying to finally tell him she will marry him, she is shocked to find that in this alternate time, she and Zane are not an item; Zane is currently serving a long sentence in Carter's jail. In the next episode it was revealed that she was no longer Deputy in the current timeline and instead the Chief of Security in GD. When a malfunctioning rocket destroys her house, Jo moves in with Carter. She and Carter are both thrown when Carter's daughter, Zoe, starts to date Zane although Jo realizes she can't blame Zoe since, as far as she's concerned, Zane and Jo hate each other so it's not a betrayal.

In "The Ex-Files," Jo keeps hallucinating about the Zane she knew in the original timeline. Eventually she tells the real Zane how she feels instead of the hallucination Zane, giving him back the engagement ring he gave her from the original timeline. Zane has figured out that something must have happened between them and the other four that travelled through time, after Jo has given him his grandmother's engagement ring and said she is over him. Zane asks Jo what they were to each other and Jo says "Nothing." Zane kisses her and asks her why that didn't feel like a first kiss.
Jo doesn't reply, and Zoe shows up, Zane goes off on his date with her.

In the premiere of the second half of Season 4, Zane and Fargo get launched into space accidentally and Zane asks Fargo to tell him what's going on with Lupo, realizing that they once meant something to each other but he doesn't remember it but she does but she won't tell him. In "Reprise," Fargo and Zane both later imply to Jo that Zane is now aware of the alternate timeline. Now knowing the truth, Zane is persistent in wanting to know what he and Jo were to each other, but she continually refuses because she is trying to let the relationship go. By "Glimpse," it is revealed that Jo has given into her feelings and that she has been secretly seeing Zane for "five or six weeks," though she still claims to want to end their relationship.
