Jhorahat is a village development committee in Morang District
in the Kosi Zone
of south-eastern Nepal
. At the time of the 2001 Nepal census
it had a population of 4844 people with 2457 male population and 2387 female population.
.The name was kept maybe because the place was habitated by cutting down hugh forest that was present there hundreds of years ago.

There were reports of race clashes during the madheshi revolution in 2009 when the ethnic minorities of Brahmin and Kshyatriya were threatened by the tharus and madhesis.However these disputes died shortly after the madhesi revolution was compromised.
stronghold after the democratic revolution of 1990,Jhorahat has now seen varying political consensus.Madhesi parties like madhesi jana adhikar forum,Nepal communist party(Maoist) are uprising after the consituent assembly election of 2008.Jhorahat falls under Area number 5 of Morang district according to election commission.

Jhorahat sees the mixture of various ethnic groups like Tharu,Musahar,Batar,Brahmin,Kshyatriya,Newar,Kami,Damain etc.Brahmin and Kshyatriya population mostly reside in the Jhorahat central area and others mostly in the scattered areas mostly Khuniyakatta,Tetariya,Batrain,Birta etc.There were reports of race clashes during the madheshi revolution in 2009 when the ethnic minorities of Brahmin and Kshyatriya were threatened by the tharus and madhesis.However these disputes died shortly after the madhesi revolution was compromised.
