He started his career in 1961 as an associate at the Frank Boas Law Office, where he became a partner in 1966 and stayed until 1969. From 1964 until 1974, he was a lecturer at the University of Antwerp

Bar and founded the De Bandt law firm. From 1969 until 1999 he was Chairman and Managing Partner of the lawfirm De Bandt, van Hecke, Lagae & Loesch in Brussels. From 1999 until 2001 he was partner of De Bandt, van Hecke, Lagae & Loesch. Since 2002, he is partner and Senior Counsel of Linklaters De Bandt (Brussels ). In addition he serves on the board of various non-profit organisations supporting musical causes. He is Chairman of non-profit organisation Mont des Arts.
