. They are one of the smallest schools in the conference, based on enrollment, and thereby compete in the Henlopen South. The Indians have won 4 state championships with the latest coming in softball in 1998. They have two championships in basketball from 1980 and 1981 and one in football from 1988.

Football

The history of the Indian River Indian's football team goes as far back as 1963 with their first win in the Henlopen Conference when the school was known as John M Clayton. In 1969, the state split the schools for football into two divisions. Indian River was placed in the Henlopen South Division in the conference and have won 14 division championships. Indian River's last southern division title came in 2011. Indian River's last football state championship was in 1988.

MCJROTC

The Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. is one of the many other extracurricular activities. The Drill Team and the Rifle Team have won countless awards for parades and competitions, as well as many other events.
