 approved it for over-the-counter use in 1984. In other countries, such as Spain, higher dosages of 600 mg are available. In Germany 600 mg and 800 mg per pill packages have to be prescribed, whereas 400 mg is available over the counter in pharmacies. Mexico's doses go up to 800 mg per pill.

In Canada doses of 200 mg and 400 mg are available OTC with 600 mg being reserved as a prescription form that is a benefit under most Canadian formularies. The 800 mg form is not available.
