History

The league was founded as the I-League Under-19 in 2011. Clubs fielded Under-19 teams. 15 teams were split into three groups of four teams each. Teams played others within their own conference once. At the end of the season the top two teams were paired into rounds of play-offs played over two legs in a knockout system. This format has remained to the present day.

    All teams played the other teams in their group once and the group winners (4 group winners) play 3 final fixtures against each other, producing 6 games a season for the group winners and just 3 games for the other teams that did not make the final stage.
